The Frank P. Zeidler Humanities Room at Milwaukee Central Library provides access to a collection of Family Files owned and maintained by the Milwaukee County Genealogical Society.
This collection includes both subject files and family surname files.
The family surname files may include resources such as
family trees,
obituaries,
clippings,
correspondence,
family group sheets,
bible records,
notes,
bound histories,
or other materials.
The indexes provide a listing of the files in the collection.
The MCGS Family Files collection may be viewed in the Frank P. Zeidler Humanities Room at Milwaukee Central Library during its normal hours of operation. Speak to a librarian in the room to request access.
In 1976, the Milwaukee County Genealogical Society, moved the family files into the Humanites Room. In the May 1976, MCGS Reporter, the files were described as follows: "Arranged alphabetically by surname, these files contain a potpourri of material placed there by our members over the past forty years. You might find every thing from pencilled research notes to copies of documents."
The indexes are maintained and updated by the Milwaukee Public Library.
