What?   Genealogical research for a week at the largest genealogical library in the world!

 

Where? FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City, Utah – see https://www.familysearch.org/en/library/

 

When?  October 5-12*, 2025 --- Note that dates are somewhat flexible if you need to +/- a day or so; it’s Sun-Sun to maximize research time since the library is closed Sundays.  Many participants on last year’s trip said they’d like to come on this trip as well yet they’d prefer to fly back Sat. 10/11 instead of Sun. 10/12.

 

Why?     Experience world-class genealogical research including invaluable assistance from on-site genealogy experts, as well as great comradery with your fellow MCGS members😊.  Another important reason is the library contains many only-available-onsite records such as books that due to copyright reasons cannot be published online, so the only place to view them is in-person at the library.  As a personal example I found a book of the small Hungarian town Hetvehely documenting my 5x great-grandparents and their several children, which until finding this book I thought they only had 2 children!

 

Hotel Details:  With our group’s special genealogy discount rate, a double-occupancy deluxe hotel room at The Plaza Hotel https://plaza-hotel.com/ which is adjacent to the library will be $133.77 per night so $936.39 total (including taxes), or $468.20 per person if roommates split the cost.  If you wish to have a single standard room, the per night cost is $122.14 so $854.98 for the week.  NOTE there are limited standard rooms available in our room block so if you desire one, please email trips@milwaukeegenealogy.org ASAP as they are available on first-come, first-serve basis.  If you desire a roommate, please advise and as more people sign up Dan will work on pairing you up.

 

Airfare Details:  Delta is the only airline that flies directly from MKE – SLC and they charge the exact same price for individual vs. group airfare, so like for last year’s trip it was decided for this upcoming trip that it would be least complicated and most flexible if each person booked his/her own airfare.  This also enables one to use their airline of choice and choose to take out flight insurance or not.  Yet if anyone needs any help booking flights don’t hesitate to reach out and I’ll try my best to assist.

 

The recommended flight details are as follows (yet feel free to book different flights per your schedule):  

As of press time airfare ranged between $509 (Basic) - $689 (Comfort) +/- yet will fluctuate over time possibly down but most likely up especially the closer to October it becomes; last year these direct flights sold out a couple months before and became much more expensive as time went on.

 

After you book your airfare, please email your flight itinerary to Dan at Trips@milwaukeegenealogy.org so he can keep track of everyone’s schedules, and then he will provide details how to reserve your Plaza Hotel room.

 

NOTE the sign-up deadline is 8/1/25, so it’s strongly encouraged you make reservations sooner than later since if there is overwhelming demand there’s a chance that airfare and/or hotel room block could be full.  Feel free to reach out with any questions, and I look forward to seeing many of you my fellow MCGS members on this trip as it will be an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience! 🤩
